Some Tips and Tricks for Beginners on Driving a Rig
For those who are enthusiastic about driving a rig and really want to know the basic tips and trick on driving one, it could behoove you to learn such basics. Of course, you will learn such tips and trucks in truck driving school, but it is always good to get a head’s up on how driving a rig is conducted. The following tips and tricks are directed to beginners, and you should adhere to them wherever you are driving. Check them out, learn them, and incorporate them in your work ethic.
Cars Riding Alongside a Rig
Some car drivers have the tendency of driving alongside a rig, and this type of driving can be very hazardous. Since lives can be lost due to this mode of driving, you should do everything in your power to keep other drivers from driving alongside you. Why can this be hazardous or dangerous? Well, wind turbulence may make the trailer of your rig rock from side to side just a tad bit. This is why it can be so dangerous. Before you know it, your rig’s trailer could strike the car, and the driver and passengers (if any) may lose their lives. So, you should signal to the driver to slow down or allow the driver to move ahead of you. The best way to avoid a dangerous situation is having patience and diligence on the road.
There is one more reason why this type of driving can be very dangerous. One of your rig’s tires may blow and can possibly reach the driver or passengers of the car that is beside your truck. The blown tire could harm them or could make them lose their lives.
Looking Ahead
Just like driving a regular vehicle, you should always look ahead of you. The best way to conduct this method is to scan at least 5 car-lengths ahead of you and then keep such diligence. You should know exactly what to do and how to drive before you get there. If you maintain your use of this method, you will be able to avoid devastating crashes or traffic accidents.
Taking an Exit
If you need to take an exit, you should make sure that there is plenty of room ahead and to the sides of you before starting such an action. Of course, you will need to take the exit or will have a big amount of time and distance to make up. Still, you will need to make sure that you give all drivers on the interstate or highway enough room for you to take the needed exit to get to where you are going.
Yes, use your common sense and know exactly how much time and distance you need before taking the exit. Just like looking ahead, you need to visualize a number of car-lengths ahead of you in order to judge the distance and timing you need to take the exit. If you try to force other drivers to move and then take the exit, you could possibly start a huge, tragic accident.
Taking a Corner (Wintertime)
When it comes to taking a corner, you should always remember to slow down before entering the curve and then use your rig’s horsepower to pound through the curve. You should go extra slow before entering curves in the wintertime. Why do you pound through the curve? Your trailer should never push a rig through a curve. You should make sure to keep your trailer in check by pulling on it while in the middle of taking a curve.
These tips and tricks should definitely help you develop adequate beginner skills as a truck driver. If you make sure to thoroughly learn and assess your driving skills on a regular basis, you will surely become better than before. Nonetheless, many truck driving schools can help you become a good truck driver.
